CORRECTIVE ACTION PROCEDURE

According to NFPA 1600 2007 Annex A.5.14.4, 
your corrective action procedure should:

 

 

  1. Monitor program performance.

    1. Monitor how actual incidents are handled.

    2. Monitor program exercises and tests.

  2. Evaluate program performance.

    1. Evaluate how actual incidents are being handled.

    2. Evaluate program exercises and tests.

  3. Identify program performance deficiencies.

    1. Identify program planning deficiencies.

    2. Identify program training deficiencies.

    3. Identify program equipment deficiencies.

    4. Identify program facility deficiencies.

  4. Develop a problem statement for each deficiency.

    1. Define each problem (deficiency).

    2. Clarify the impact each problem has.

  5. Assign task groups to develop corrective actions.

  6. Develop corrective actions to address deficiencies.

    1. Establish a development schedule for each action.

    2. Review evaluations of previous corrective actions.

    3. Identify possible solutions to each problem (deficiency).

  7. Formulate options to address each problem (deficiency).

  8. Recommend preferred corrective actions.

    1. Select a corrective action strategy.

    2. Prioritize the actions that should be taken.

  9. Develop an implementation plan for each action.

    1. Establish an implementation schedule for each action.

    2. Identify implementation resources for each action.

  10. Approve the implementation of corrective actions.

    1. Grant official authority to implement corrective actions.

    2. Refer intractable problems (deficiencies) to higher authorities.

  11. Provide resources to implement approved corrective actions.

  12. Implement each approved corrective action.

  13. Monitor the implementation of corrective actions.

  14. Use exercises to test and evaluate corrective actions.
